Import Your Browser Bookmarks into MyNav (Pro Feature)
You've probably saved thousands of bookmarks over the years. MyNav can bring them all over — with your folder structure intact — in one operation. Import is a Pro feature ($3/month or $24/year); upgrade here if you haven't yet.
Two ways to import
Option A — HTML file (works on any device). Every major browser can export bookmarks as an HTML file:
- Chrome/Edge: Bookmark manager (Ctrl+Shift+O) → ⋮ menu → Export bookmarks
- Firefox: Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks → Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML
- Safari: File → Export → Bookmarks
Then in MyNav: Settings → Data → Import HTML, drop the file in (up to 2MB / 5,000 bookmarks), and preview what will be created before confirming.
Option B — direct read via the Chrome extension. With the MyNav extension installed, open the popup → Import browser bookmarks. It reads your chrome.bookmarks tree directly — no file juggling — and shows the same preview. Great when you're doing this on the same machine as your browser.
What the preview tells you
Before anything is written, MyNav shows:
- Folders found — your browser's folder hierarchy (including sub-folders) becomes MyNav folders
- Links found — each with its saved title
- Duplicates skipped — if a URL already exists in your account, it won't be created twice
After importing: a 10-minute cleanup
Imports are rarely tidy. Do this once and you're set:
- Merge near-duplicate folders ("Tech", "tech stuff", "Technology" → one)
- Drag your 2–3 daily-use folders to the top of the sidebar
- Empty "Bookmarks bar" leftovers into a single Archive folder — search will find them if you ever need them
Notes and limits
- One import can contain up to 5,000 bookmarks; run it twice for larger collections
- Import adds to your account — it never deletes what's already there
- Want to leave MyNav someday? Export (also Pro) writes a standard Netscape HTML file that any browser will import back
That's the full circle: in with one click, out with one click. Your bookmarks, finally in one place you actually open every day.
