After Pocket shut down: what to do with your saved links

Pocket was a read-later queue. If that is still your job — articles you intend to read this week — Instapaper or Readwise Reader are closer to what Pocket was. MyNav is not a read-later app: it is a navigation library for links you go back to, which is what most people's Pocket archive actually became.

When to pick MyNav

You kept things in Pocket to find them again — recipes, tools, documentation, that one blog post — and almost never actually read them in Pocket's reader.

When to pick it instead

You genuinely read long articles offline and want highlights. In that case look at Instapaper or Readwise Reader, not at a bookmark manager.

How to migrate

Pocket's export window closed on 12 November 2025, so recovery is only possible if you already downloaded the file.

  1. 1Check your downloads and mail for pocket_export_*.html or a CSV from 2025. Without it, the data is gone from Pocket's side.
  2. 2Open the HTML in a text editor to confirm it contains <a href> entries — Pocket's export is a standard bookmark file.
  3. 3Import that file into MyNav (Settings → Import) or straight back into your browser. No conversion step is needed.
  4. 4Anything you cannot recover, re-save as you encounter it. A year of saving into a dead service is the actual cost of not exporting.

Common questions

Can I still export from Pocket?
No. The export window closed on 12 November 2025 and Mozilla began deleting accounts and data. Only a file you already downloaded can still be imported.
Is MyNav a Pocket replacement?
Only for the 'find it again' half. MyNav has no reading view, no offline articles, no highlights. If those matter, pair it with a read-later app rather than replacing one with the other.
What is the lesson from Pocket?
Pick tools with a documented export, and use it occasionally instead of trusting that the service will outlast your archive. We publish the export formats and keep them available on the free plan for that reason.
